Winning companies earn 8.5x more revenue per employee and more than triple their stock market performance, delivering ‘incredible’ business performance.

April 2, 2025, Oakland, Calif. — Can employee trust be measured in dollars and cents? The 2025 Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For® have proven that the answer is a resounding yes.

On average, the 100 Best Companies earn 8.5 times more revenue per employee (RPE) than the U.S. public market RPE. This astounding outperformance includes both public and private companies, with public companies reporting RPE that’s more than 9.4 times higher than market RPE, while private companies see more than 7.7 times higher. This financial advantage trends across industries, reinforcing the financial benefits of high-trust workplaces.

The annual list of top-performing companies is determined by employee surveys, corporate data, and a comprehensive audit of an organization’s workplace programs, benefits, and practices — all powered by [ʘ, a UKG company since 2021.

LinkedIn Newsletter Inline F100 8.5x Greater Revenue

“The 100 Best Companies don’t hit high RPE numbers by slashing headcount and overworking their teams,” says Michael C. Bush, CEO of [ʘ, which has produced the list since 1998. “Well-being isn’t sacrificed for productivity.”

The 100 Best Companies are more profitable and productive because they’ve created consistently positive work experiences, resulting in lower burnout rates and higher levels of psychological and emotional health compared to typical workplaces. They outperform their peers in every employee experience metric, with nine out of 10 people describing their workplace as caring.

High levels of agility and discretionary effort fuel high RPE levels at the 100 Best Companies. “That doesn’t happen by giving them perks like free food or Apple watches,” Bush says. “If it were that simple, every workplace would be great. It happens by listening to people and involving them in decisions that affect them.”

Leaders at the 100 Best Companies ensure all employees have opportunities for special recognition and make sure they believe that what they do matters; that they matter as human beings first and workers second. They’ve built organizations where transparency, well-being, and high levels of cooperation are cornerstones.

Outperforming the market

FTSE Russell, a global index and data provider, analyzed the annual returns of the publicly traded companies on the 2025 100 Best Companies list and found they achieved total stock returns of 21.0%.

In looking at the historic 27-year return of the 100 Best Companies, it found this portfolio beat the market average by a factor of 3.50 relative to the Russell 1000 Index, a leading benchmark of U.S. large-cap equities. Returns in 2024 boosted the cumulative outperformance margin of the 100 Best Companies to 2,267 percentage points, an increase of 371 percentage points year-over-year.

“As a general rule of thumb, if you can outperform by 2% to 3%, that’s considered quite noteworthy,” says Ryan Giannotto, CFA, manager of equity index research at the London Stock Exchange Group. “A cumulative 27-year outperformance factor of 3.50 is incredible. This analysis gives credence to the contention that employee experience contributes to market returns.”

2025 FTSE Russell 100 Best Analysis

Historic analysis confirms outperformance isn’t just a snapshot in time. The 100 Best Companies achieved a total return of 3,174% compared to the 907% total return of the Russell 1000 Index from December 1997 to December 2024.

“This is why investors do not look at just a one-year return,” Giannotto says. “They look at a comprehensive history of returns because they want to see how a company performs in different market conditions.”

The 100 Best Companies exemplify how high-trust cultures drive business success: Leaders shape the employee experience, which in turn shapes the culture, and that culture drives business performance.

Giannotto points out that the market returns have been driven by some of the largest companies, known as the Magnificent Seven, which comprise about 34% of the market.

“For the 100 Best Companies to get competitive market returns without all those trillion-dollar market cap company names is very impressive,” he says. “They don’t rely on the Magnificent Seven to drive performance.”

FTSE Russell developed a hypothetical index of the companies who make the annual 100 Best Companies list, giving each company equal weight in the portfolio. Even then, the 100 Best Companies outperformed historically.

“In the past decade, equally weighted portfolios have substantially underperformed as, again, these ultra-large tech companies have driven a lot of performance and have only gotten larger,” Giannotto says. “To have an equally weighted portfolio that substantially outperforms like this is a compelling and impressive rethink of what factors can influence market outcomes.”

[ʘ identified the 25 winners on this year’s list by surveying more than 7.4 million employees in 2023 and 2024.

Nov. 14, 2024 (Oakland, Calif.) — Only 51% of employees are excited to use AI to improve their work and even less (45%) believe their company will use AI in a way that benefits them.

That’s the challenge facing global talent leaders according to a [ʘ® market study of nearly 43,000 employees. It’s a challenge that companies on the Fortune World’s Best Workplaces List™ are already solving, with these 25 companies outperforming the typical workplace on key drivers of confidence in leadership.

Here are the companies that made this year’s list:

  1. DHL Express
  2. Hilton
  3. AbbVie
  4. Cisco
  5. Hilti
  6. Accenture
  7. Teleperformance
  8. Stryker
  9. Cadence
  10. Salesforce
  11. Agilent Technologies
  12. SC Johnson
  13. MetLife

When employees reported having confidence in their leaders, they were four times more likely to say they were meaningfully participating in innovation at their company, increasing their odds of AI adoption and overall resilience at work.

When employees say they have a lot of meaningful opportunities to innovate, they are three times more likely to be excited to use AI.

[ʘ identified key employee experiences that increase the odds that employees also report having confidence in company leadership. Companies on the list outperformed the typical workplace on every measure. For example, less than half of employees at a typical workplace said promotions were fairly awarded compatred to three in four employees at the World’s Best.

“As global companies, these employers have an incredible impact on our world,” says Michael C. Bush, CEO of [ʘ. “We are proud to recognize these companies for their dedication to creating better workplaces for every employee — and by extension, making the world a better place for all of us.”

“This global list followed a rigorous process, one that assures that employees have spoken about what they think are exceptional workplaces where they feel trusted, empowered, and energized to do their best work," says Alyson Shontel, editor-in-chief of Fortune.

2024 Fortune Best Workplaces for Women Lead the Way Beyond Fair Pay /press-releases/2024-fortune-best-workplaces-for-women-beyond-fair-pay /press-releases/2024-fortune-best-workplaces-for-women-beyond-fair-pay

Gender equity requires more than fair pay and promotions. The Best Workplaces make sure women are recognized for their work, see visible examples of other women succeeding, and have clear career paths.

Oct. 24, 2024 (Oakland, Calif.) — The 2024 Fortune Best Workplaces for Women™ are setting standards for gender equity in the workplace by going beyond fair pay and promotions to create environments where women feel valued, seen, and supported — a commitment reflected in their bottom line.

At these workplaces:

  • 91% of women want to stay long-term
  • 90% of women give extra to get the job done
  • Nearly 80% feel that their managers involve them in decisions.

When women are involved in decisions that affect them, they are 20% more likely to feel their work has purpose. Why is a sense of purpose so important? It makes retention 2.5 times, or 150%, more likely.

Fair pay and promotions and unbiased hiring are just the starting point; the bare minimum for narrowing the gender gap.

“To truly advance, we must do more,” says Michael C. Bush, CEO of [ʘ®. “What kind of experience are you creating for women once they are working for you? That’s where we’ll make real progress.”

The Best Workplaces for Women focus on creating a sense of purpose, recognizing achievements, and providing clear career paths supported by development and mentorship opportunities.

Stryker and Robert Half, for instance, have significantly increased the number of women in leadership roles through dedicated employee resource groups.

Winning workplaces (large organizations):

  1. Hilton
  2. Cisco
  3. Marriott International
  4. Synchrony
  5. American Express

Winning workplaces (small- and medium-sized organizations):

  1. Highlight Technologies
  2. Insmed
  3. WestPac Wealth Partners
  4. ezCater, Inc.

Fortune congratulates the companies that made the cut for the Best Workplaces for Women,” says Fortune Editor-in-Chief Alyson Shontell. “Based on survey responses of so many women nationwide, these companies clearly demonstrate they have created workplaces where many feel valued, supported, and encouraged to do their best work.”

Commitment to excellence

At winning workplaces:

  • 81% of women feel that promotions go to those who best deserve them, an enormous 62% increase over typical workplaces
  • Nearly 9 out of 10 women feel that everyone has an opportunity for special recognition, a 54% increase over typical workplaces
  • 87% of women find special meaning in their work, a 55% increase over women at typical workplaces

“Every person deserves to feel good about their work, be recognized for their contributions, and feel supported in their professional development, no matter their gender,” Bush says. “This should be the expectation, not the exception.”

With Only 1 in 3 Workers in Europe Excited to Use AI, Trust Boosts Confidence at 100 Best in Europe /press-releases/only-1-in-3-workers-in-europe-excited-to-use-ai-100-best-in-europe /press-releases/only-1-in-3-workers-in-europe-excited-to-use-ai-100-best-in-europe

[ʘ analyzed over 1 million employee surveys to identify companies where employees had the most consistently positive experience.

Oct. 10, 2024, Oakland, Calif. — In a new partnership with Fortune Europe, [ʘ® has announced the first ever .

To select the list, [ʘ surveyed 1.3 million employees across Europe about experiences that build trust in the workplace. Of those, 1 million responses came from companies eligible for the list, and this ranking is based on that feedback.

To be considered for the list, companies must have 500 or more employees and be recognized on national Best Workplaces™ lists in Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Türkiye, or the United Kingdom during 2023 or early 2024.

These companies dramatically outperform the typical workplace in Europe, as measured by a market study of 26,000 European workers conducted by [ʘ. What sets winning companies apart from the typical workplace in Europe? Fairness.

At the 100 Best, 78% of employees say promotions are fair and 70% say they receive a fair share of company profits. That’s a significant increase over the typical workplace, where only 37% say promotions are fair and 36% say they receive a fair share of profits.

“Congratulations to the 100 Best Companies to Work For in Europe,” says Michael C. Bush, CEO of [ʘ. “Despite the economic challenges facing them, these companies found ways to offer more support to their people, developing a foundation of trust that is crucial for business success in the years ahead.”

"We are delighted to unveil our inaugural list of the 100 Best Companies to Work For in Europe, created in partnership with [ʘ, experts in evaluating corporate culture with decades of experience,” says Grethe Schepers, lists director, Europe at Fortune. “These companies have built environments where people thrive and feel included, driven by a shared sense of purpose - all backed by honest, detailed employee feedback. Congratulations to all the companies that have achieved this great recognition."

Ready for AI

Only one in three workers at typical European workplaces are excited to use AI tools and only one in four reports that their company is making meaningful investments in training and development on AI skills.

This data suggests European companies will face friction when trying to introduce AI systems to the workplace. By building trust with workers, 100 Best companies are creating cultures that will innovate faster and more quickly adapt to change.

Fairness also connects with how employees view the addition of AI to the workplace. At typical European companies, when employees say promotions are fair, they are 29% more likely to also say they are excited to use AI.

Who made the list?

Companies on the list were separated into two categories with 25 multinational companies selected and 75 large companies with 500 or more employees. Multinational companies must appear on at least three national Best Workplaces™ lists in Europe.

Here are the top five multinationals on the list:

1. DHL Express
2. AbbVie
3. Hilti
4. Hilton
5. Cisco

Here are the top five large companies:

1. Bank van Breda
2. Sparbanken Skåne
3. XM
4. Beierholm
5. Sii Polska

With employee engagement at near-record lows and many workers considering leaving their jobs or disengaging, executives can’t afford not to create equitable workplaces, which are more innovative, agile, and productive.

The 2024 Fortune Best Workplaces™ by industry lists, produced in partnership with [ʘ, stand out.

Key findings:

  • Over 90% of employees at these workplaces feel like full team members
  • 80% believe promotions are fair, special recognition is equitable, and they’re offered training and development opportunities equally

That leads to significant business benefits:

  • 90% of employees are willing to give extra effort — a 53% increase over typical workplaces
  • Nearly 90% believe their workplace adapts well to change — a 42% increase
  • 88% want to stay at their company long-term — a 44% increase

“Those returns are what every executive wants, but that can’t happen without trust,” says Michael C. Bush, CEO of [ʘ. “If your people don’t believe your processes for promotions, development, or recognition are fair, you won’t create the type of workplace you need to compete in business today. That trust is earned.”

[ʘ determined the Best Workplaces lists by analyzing data from 1 million employees from qualifying companies. The analysis revealed that companies that prioritize equity of opportunity outperformed across all culture and business metrics no matter the industry.

For example, the Fortune Best Workplaces in Construction™ offer more opportunities for career growth than typical workplaces in any industry. Nearly 90% of employees feel they have professional development opportunities – among the highest at the Best Workplaces in any industry.

And, 97% more employees at the Fortune Best Workplaces in Retail™ feel managers avoid playing favorites compared to typical retail companies.

The winning workplaces:

Business outcomes of equitable workplaces

Industries don’t determine our work experience; companies do. More specifically, leaders at companies do. According to [ʘ research, the business outcomes of that leadership include:

  • Employees are 8 times more likely to stay with their company if they feel they’re treated as full team members, and 1.5 times more likely if employees feel management cares about them.
  • When employees feel managers involve them in decisions that impact their work, their workplace is 3 times more likely to be agile.
  • Employees are 6 times more likely to give extra at work if they feel their workplace offers equitable opportunities for special recognition, and 1.3 times more likely when they feel they’re paid fairly

[ʘ Announces the 2024 Best Workplaces in Asia Representing 6.9 Million Employee Experiences /press-releases/great-place-to-work-announces-the-2024-best-workplaces-in-asia-representing-6-9-million-employee-experiences /press-releases/great-place-to-work-announces-the-2024-best-workplaces-in-asia-representing-6-9-million-employee-experiences

Oakland, Calif. – Today, [ʘ® announced its Best Workplaces in Asia™ for 2024. The list is based on confidential survey data, with over 2.7 million individual responses representing the experiences of nearly 6.9 million employees from across the region. Employees reported their experiences of trust, innovation, company values, and leadership, and these rankings are based on that feedback.

Companies are also evaluated on how well they are creating a For All™ workplace experience, where all employees feel included no matter who they are or what they do.

Companies on the list in 2024 have higher numbers of employees who report a positive experience at work compared to the typical workplace in Asia. When companies build high levels of trust with employees, they are more likely to be prepared for disruption — including the rise of generative AI.

In a market survey of more than 7,000 employees across Asia and the Middle East, [ʘ found that less than half of employees (49%) say their organization is training them on the risks and benefits of using AI tools at work and only 46% said their employer was investing in training them on AI tools.

However, at the Best Workplaces™, 89% of employees report that their company celebrates people who try new ways of doing things — 27 points higher than the 62% of employees who said the same at typical workplaces in Asia.

When employees say their company celebrates people who try new things, they are 69% more likely to adapt quickly to change and 18% more likely to give extra effort on the job — both key elements of a culture that can quickly add AI tools.

“Congratulations to the Best Workplaces in Asia,” says Michael C. Bush, CEO of [ʘ. “These companies prove that investing in people can lead to better outcomes for business and better outcomes for the planet.”

About the 2024 Best Workplaces in Asia List

[ʘ selected the 2024 Best Workplaces in Asia List by analyzing companies’ workplace programs and surveying over 2.7 million employees across multiple countries in Asia and the Middle East. The responses represent the experience of nearly 6.9 million employees across the region.

To be considered, companies must first be identified as outstanding in their local region by appearing on one or more of our Best Workplaces Lists in Bahrain, Greater China (including China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan), India, Indonesia, Japan, Kuwait, Oman, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, UAE, or Vietnam during 2023 or early 2024.

Companies rank in three size categories: small and medium (50–499 employees), large (500+ employees), and multinational. Multinational organizations are also assessed on their efforts to create great workplaces across multiple countries in the region. Multinationals must appear on at least two national lists in Asia and the Middle East and have at least 1,000 employees worldwide with either 40% of its total workforce, or more than 5,000 employees located outside their headquarters country.

High Levels of Cooperation, Care Drive Employees to Give Extra at the Best Small and Medium Workplaces /press-releases/high-levels-of-cooperation,-care-drive-employees-to-give-extra-at-the-best-small-and-medium-workplaces /press-releases/high-levels-of-cooperation,-care-drive-employees-to-give-extra-at-the-best-small-and-medium-workplaces

Nine in 10 employees at winning companies say their manager shows a sincere interest in them, compared to just six in 10 at a typical U.S. workplace.

Aug. 28, 2024 (Oakland, Calif.) — When looking at the 2024 Fortune Best Small & Medium Workplaces™, their ability to care for the needs of their people sets them apart.

“We see it clearly in the data: When people feel cared for, their full potential is unleashed, and even the smallest group of committed and empowered individuals becomes an unstoppable force,” says Michael C. Bush, CEO of [ʘ®. “When leaders genuinely care for their people, and we mean all their people, it transforms a company.”

To select this year’s lists, [ʘ analyzed more than 244,000 employee surveys from people working at [ʘ Certified™ companies eligible for either the Fortune Best Small Workplaces™ or Fortune Best Medium Workplaces™ Lists. Companies with between 10 and 99 employees were considered for the small workplaces list. Companies with between 100 and 999 employees competed for the medium workplaces list.

Nearly all employees (98%) at companies that made this year’s list report having a culture where people care about each other. Only 68% of employees say the same at your typical U.S. workplace, based on a market survey of 4,400 employees Great Placet To Work conducted.

For companies looking to increase productivity and improve performance, these experiences are crucial. When employees say that people care about each other at their organization, they are 1.7 times more likely to give extra effort. When employees believe people are willing to cooperate, they are 6.7 times more likely to give extra effort.

“Care, empathy, and compassion are tools that any leader can access, no matter how big their company, or how many people work in the HR department,” Bush says. “At the Best Small and Medium Workplaces, caring leadership becomes a superpower — and these businesses find they can compete with any organization for top talent.”

PEOPLE and [ʘ Announce PEOPLE’s '100 Companies that Care' for 2024 /press-releases/people-companies-that-care-2024-press-release /press-releases/people-companies-that-care-2024-press-release

Cisco Named No. 1 for its efforts to close the digital divide and support humanitarian causes that help millions of people worldwide.

#100CompaniesCare

(NEW YORK, August 21, 2024) — PEOPLE reveals its eighth annual list of 100 Companies that Care®, spotlighting employers that have gone above and beyond to create positive workplaces for their staff and the community at large.

Cisco landed the No. 1 spot for its commitment to creating social impact. In the 2022 fiscal year, Cisco hired its first chief social impact officer, and maintained an 80% employee participation rate in community impact programs and volunteering.

More than 62,000 employees generated more than $34 million in total donations and matching gifts. Cisco also focuses on inclusive causes, requiring that external partners who receive money from its social impact initiatives validate that at least 65% of their programs’ participants come from underrepresented or vulnerable groups.

Read more about Cisco and other featured companies that made the list and in the August 26, 2024, issue of PEOPLE, which hits newsstands nationwide on Friday, August 23.

PEOPLE once again partnered with global workplace culture authority [ʘ® to identify the top U.S. companies that best fit the criteria, analyzing survey responses that represent the experience of 8.2 million employees.

Companies that Care is the only company culture award in America that selects winners based on the level of care and concern for their employees, their communities, and the environment. Winning companies score highly on how well they create great employee experiences that cut across race, gender, age, disability status, or any aspect of who employees are or their role within the organization. [ʘ also assessed the level of generosity of each organization’s benefits and its philanthropic and community support.

PEOPLE’s TOP 10 COMPANIES THAT CARE for 2024

  1. Cisco
  2. Hilton
  3. The Wonderful Company
  4. Marriott International
  5. Veterans United Home Loans
  6. NVIDIA
  7. Wegmans Food Markets, Inc.

Other themes from this year’s list include efforts to help people rebuild their lives, such as Hilton (No. 2), with its hiring program to help formerly incarcerated employees build job skills, or Marriott International (No. 4), with efforts to help refugees find jobs and new careers.

Companies like Sheetz, Inc. (No. 9) stood out with programs like its “store team helper” role, which offers individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities meaningful employment at its convenience store locations. BayCare Health System (No. 8) made the top 10 for its “Healing Bags” program, which provides food-insecure patients with a two-to-three-day supply of non-perishable food to take home.

“What these companies prove is that taking care of your workforce is an investment — not a cost,” says Michael C. Bush, CEO of [ʘ. “And companies that do it the right way will reap the benefits: more engagement, faster innovation, and a healthy bottom line.”

“Each year, we look forward to highlighting the innovative ways these companies give back to their employees, communities, and the world,” says Wendy Naugle, PEOPLE editor-in-chief. “Celebrating the care and kindness they show is a natural extension of our editorial mission — to show what’s possible when ordinary people commit to extraordinary endeavors.”

To identify the 100 Companies That Care, PEOPLE teamed up with [ʘ to produce the ranking using the firm’s extensive database and inside knowledge of outstanding workplaces around the globe.
